Eight Horses Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Water Mountain

The water mountain theme, long loved by Chinese painters, gets a fine airing in this eight horses scroll painting. There is nothing hurried here; the brush takes its time, and so should the viewer. It belongs with the best of oriental wall hanging, the sort that settles into a room from day one.

A red sun hangs in the sky, the picture's single note of pure color. Solid and unhurried, the mountains give the picture its spine. The water appears as a small pleasure of the composition, easily missed and worth finding. Text and image answer each other here, the calligraphy echoing the painting's mood. Nothing is rushed and nothing is fussy; the middle path, held.

It keeps good company with the finest classical chinese artwork, the kind that rewards daily looking. Give it wall space and it will repay the attention many times over. Give it time; the best pictures are slow company.
