Landscape Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Hill Blossom

In this landscape scroll painting, the hill blossom theme is less depicted than inhabited. The work reads as a whole from across the room and rewards a closer look too. It belongs with the best of classical chinese artwork, the sort that settles into a room from day one.

A lake spreads across the middle distance, its surface left as quiet silk. Against the silk ground, the bridge reads clearly at any distance. Here the blossom takes its place in the composition's larger rhythm. Against the silk ground, the bird reads clearly at any distance. Blue-green mineral color, in the qinglv manner, gives the landscape its jewel-like glow. In the middle distance, the hut anchors the painting's sense of place. The hill motif is worked into the composition with classical restraint.

Collectors of traditional chinese wall art will recognize the vocabulary at once: restraint, balance, and a feel for the natural world. The vertical format draws the eye upward, giving a room a sense of lift. A thoughtful present for anyone starting a collection.
