Landscape Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Mist Waterfall

This landscape scroll painting is a study of the mist waterfall theme, patient and well observed. The overall effect is serene rather than showy, suited to a room meant for lingering. Among pieces of serene chinese wall decor, this is the quiet kind: balanced, calm, and easy to live with.

Ink wash does the heavy lifting here, and the color, where it appears, merely assists. The waterfall is painted as a falling ribbon of pale silk against the dark rock. The painter stacks mountain upon mountain, letting atmosphere do the binding. The mist work is the soul of the piece, all suggestion and no statement.

Collectors of ink wash painting will recognize the vocabulary at once: restraint, balance, and a feel for the natural world. It makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who keeps a soft spot for classical art. It makes a gracious gift for weddings and new homes.
