Landscape Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Red Maple Seal Clouds

A red maple seal clouds scene unfolds across this landscape scroll painting, composed with a scholar's restraint. The overall effect is serene rather than showy, suited to a room meant for lingering. Among pieces of chinese landscape wall art, this is the quiet kind: balanced, calm, and easy to live with.

Pines stand in clusters, their needle masses dabbed in with a dry brush. Characters in flowing script share the silk with the painting, as tradition demands. A red seal impression stamps the corner, the artist's signature in miniature. The river's course leads the viewer deeper into the painted world. Falling water provides the one note of motion in an otherwise still world. Layered mountains rise through the composition, their forms softened by distance. White clouds pile above the mountains, bright against the ink. The red maple adds a quiet accent, handled in the old manner of the brush.

It keeps good company with the finest chinese silk scroll painting, the kind that rewards daily looking. Let it hang where morning light can find it; the silk will thank you. It also makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who keeps classical art on their walls.
